Ragen Mendenhall
Ragen’s Mendenhall's powerful images
are fantastic depictions of a spirit world where nymphs and fairies
dance amongst dragonflies, and winged goddesses arise through ethereal
mists. Nature is perfectly enchanted under the spell of the paintbrush
as birds and beasts find mystical transformation into the guise of the
wise woman. It might be said that Mother Nature herself, beaming with
resplendence, sits before the artist to be captured on the canvas.
The art of Ragen is
often recognized for its incredible detail and soft, feminine quality,
yet it is her distinctive ability to capture a world of fantasy in a
strikingly emotional style that intrigues viewers most.
Traveling throughout
the country, Ragen has introduced her visionary artworks to an
appreciative audience. Her dramatically beautiful images have graced the
covers of books and CDs and her self-published print collection can now
be found in a growing number of stores and galleries across the country.
Ragen’s inspiration continues to blossom, as she
creates her newest masterpieces in her Phoenix studio.

universal symbolism and to express the beauty of the human experience in
all forms. I strive to entertain a rich tapestry of emotions within my
work to acknowledge the diversity of life's journey, and to emphasize
the strength of our collective experience.

Art of
Aewendor
The Fantasy Art of Melissa Saunders
The
Phoenix Faerie Festival welcomes a most delightful & talented young
Arizona fantasy artist.
In an excerpt from her online artist's bio: Arizona's own Melissa
Saunders says that her creativity is hugely inspired by Nature. The
power of the elements, the ever changing seasons, the simple beauty
found in plants and animals - all of these are deeply important to
her art as she always entwines some element of the natural world
into each piece.
Melissa points out that much of her art contains Celtic knot work
and stylized elements reminiscent of art nouveau, but the thing that
draws the eye are the rich, vibrant splashes of color.
The
artist
also expresses her love for the world of Fantasy - majestic dragons,
playful mermaids, and magical unicorns. They are real in her mind
and she sees her art as a window into a world where they truly
exist. She confides that the mythical world of Middle Earth is as
real to Melissa as another country that she might come to visit
someday, and she counts J.R.R. Tolkien as her single greatest
artistic influence.

Women of the Myst
Artist-
Vicki Visconti Tilly

Vicki says "I have always felt a connection to Old World images of
chivalry and forgotten civilizations. My artwork reflects the
romance and adventure of ancient cultures through mythology and
legends. I feel a kinship when painting dragons, the forgotten world
of faeries, and strong women figures of long ago.
Though she works in
pen & ink, watercolors, and acrylics, her deepest passion is oil
painting in rich jewel tones and earth colors with intricate
details.
"My
artwork has Celtic and Pre-Raphaelite influences, with some works
containing hidden images. Whenever objects such as woven hair,
celtic knots, tree trunks, branches or vines overlap, they represent
“how all things are connected in some way”. My greatest love of
creating arrives, when the artwork is nearing completion. Hours are
spent and enjoyed on the final lines, marks, or brush strokes."
Whenever Vicki sketches or paints, her imagination leads her to
forgotten realms.
Vicki says, "My
hope is that my “Enchanted Old Worlds” series takes the viewer, to
another time, and another place, somewhere that could have or has
been. A world when Man, Woman, Beast, and Earth where more
intertwined. If one looks closely, a glance at our ancient
collective past might be seen… |
